WAHSUN, PSI, OTUWA Wants ECOWAS To Implement 15% Abuja Declaration On Health Budget

A labour group, the  West African health sector unions network, WAHSUN, has petitioned ECOWAS for the inability of its member States to implement 15%  budgetary allocation to health as agreed at the 2001 Abuja declaration of African Union. WAHSUN President, Pepertual Ofori-Ampholo, said regrettably the situation has continued to promote health tourism and increase  the massive migration of health professionals abroad. In 2001, the heads of African Union member states gathered in Abuja to find long-term solutions to Africa's health crisis and other pressing issues. The Abuja Declaration was conceived during this meeting, with one of its key features being the pledge to allocate at least 15% of a country's total annual budget to the health sector by 2015. MHWUN President Mourns Ali Ciroma, Calls For immortalisation

Medical and health workers Union of Nigeria President  Comrade Dr. Ado Kabiru Minjibir on behalf of the leadership and members has expressed shock and condolences over the death of former Nigeria Labour Congress President  Ali Ciroma. In a statement  Minjibir said The news of the death of a former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), Comrade(Pa) Ali Ciroma, has come to us as a rude shock. Comrade (Pa) Ali Ciro ma stood strong against the military junta in Nigeria between 1984 and 1988 to protect the interest and welfare of the ordinary Nigerian worker. Comrade Ali Ciroma was a veteran and a quintessential labour leader who worked tirelessly for the liberation of the Nigerian worker. He will be sorely missed by all Nigerian workers.  Comrade Ali Ciroma's legacies will continue to linger among labour leaders in years to come.
