Bill Passed 2nd Reading To increase UBEC Funding From 2-4%

A Bill for the amendment of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Act to increase its funding from the consolidated revenue from 2% to 4% has passed the second reading in the House Representatives. The Chairman House Committee on Basic Education and Services, Honourable Bako Useni stated this during the committee oversight function at the Digital Resource Center built by UBEC in Abuja, Nigeria The center was built for the training of teachers on digital education in Nigeria. Honourable Bako said the 10th Assembly. saw the need to increase financial resources to the Basic education sub-sector for set objectives to be further met, hence the amendment bill sponsored by Honourable Muktar Shagaya to increase revenue accruing to  UBEC from 2% to 4%. Open Schooling: UBEC Meets SUBEBs

T he Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has engaged with the State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) Chairmen to strategize on the effective rollout of open schooling programme across the country. At a meeting with Chairmen and directors of social mobilization of SUBEBs in Abuja on Tuesday, the executive secretary of UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, said if Nigeria make a headway in curtailing the growing number of out of school children, it must explore new approaches. It  would be recalled that UBEC introduced the Open Schooling system to improve enrolment, retention and completion of UBE programmes for Out-of-School Children in a flexible education system that allows participants to learn remotely in an informal manner. EDUCATION: Nigeria Begins New Teacher Dev. Prog.

The Federal Government has launched a new teacher development programme, Teacher Internship Scheme (TIS), designed to support States in the emergence of a new generation of teachers with skills and knowledge needed to excel in the digital age and help in the implementation of smart education in Nigeria.  The scheme was introduced by Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), to address the dearth of teachers in the field of smart education being championed by the Commission in Nigeria, with the establishment of 37 Smart Schools across the country.  The execution of smart education programme of Nigeria is being provided technical support by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and commitment of about $10.4 million to the project.  Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, flagged off the teacher Internship scheme on Thursday at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre, located at Kado, Abuja, where he also inspected the facility establ...
